Boating Safety
Title 14,
United States Code, contains the
laws of a general and permanent
nature about the Coast Guard.
Section 822 of Title 14 states:
"The purpose of the Auxiliary is
to assist the Coast Guard:
- to promote safety and to
effect rescues on and over
the high seas and on
navigable waters;
- to promote efficiency in
the operation of motorboats
and yachts;
- to foster a wider
knowledge of, and better
compliance with, the laws,
rules, and regulations
governing the operation of
motorboats and yachts; and
- to facilitate other
operations of the Coast
Guard."
The members of Flotilla 72
are active in numerous programs
that support the recreational
boating safety responsibility of
the U.S. Coast Guard. They are:
- Recreational
Boating Safety Classes
presented in the East
Providence area. Click the
CLASSES link above for
additional information;
- Vessel Safety
Checks (VSC). This
free service is offered to
boaters who want to be sure
that all of the required
safety equipment is on board
and working properly.
A qualified examiner will
provide a thorough check and
answer any questions you may
have about boating safety.
- Program Visitor
is another service whereby
auxiliarists pay regular
visits to boating supply
stores and marinas to assure
that boating safety
pamphlets and brochures are
available to the public. If
you are a marine dealer
wanting to initiate service
or are in need of additional
material,
e-mail our Program
Visitation officer.
- Flotilla 72 has an
active Operations program
whereby trained auxiliarists
conduct Safety Patrols in
Narragansett Bay and
surrounding waters. We
may be called upon to assist
boaters in need per Coast
Guard policies or provide
assistance for maritime
events such as Tall Ships,
Swim the Bay, Quonset Air
Show, etc.

Our links page serves as one
of the best resources for
Boating Safety information
for the Narragansett Bay
maritime community.
And we need
your help...
Any
volunteer organization's
strength is found in its
membership and leadership.
In addition to the programs
listed above, the members of
Flotilla 72 provide
administrative and other
operational support to Active &
Reserve Coast Guard units in the
area. We hope that you will
at least inquire about all that
our flotilla has to offer our
nation, our state, and our
members.

our Personnel Services Officer.
